Podcast
Kampnagel, a cultural centre in Hamburg, has been defying direct and indirect attacks from the right with a variety of creative strategies for many years. These include Migrantpolitan (founded in 2014), an artistic- and social loophole for migrant artists, where hosting is taken seriously and continually reinvented. Productions such as THE ART OF BEING MANY (geheimagentur, 2014) or DEUTSCHE INTEGRIERT EUCH (God’s Entertainment, 2016) have also explored positive, humorous and sometimes playful forms of collective action to counter nationalist attempts of identity appropriation. Thanks to a solid foundation of solidary and strategic space-taking, the institution is equipped for the challenges of current political struggles. The further evolution of such strategies, especially in the face of the spreading of right-wing thinking even in the “center of society”, nevertheless requires resources and a broad awareness of the role of places like Kampnagel.
